Vadim Modzalevskyi (1882 Tiflis – 1920 Kiev) – a historian, genealogist and archivist. Born in a Cossack family from Chernigov. He graduated from the military school in Saint Petersburg and Kiev. Since 1906, he worked as a cadet schoolmaster in Saint Petersburg. Between 1911–1917, he served as a director of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquity (Muzei ukraiinskoii starovyny) in Chernigov. In 1918, he became a director of Archive and Library Department at the Ministry of Education in Kiev. He also worked in the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. In his works he used materials found in Ukrainian and Russian archives. He dealt with Ukrainian political science, sociology, economy and cultural history. Together with J. Narbut and V. Lukomskyi, he collected the List of Ukrainian Coat-of-Arms in 1914. He left a large archive, a diary from 1896–1917 and correspondence. He died in 1920.
